International Applicants

An international applicant is anyone who is not a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident at the time of application to the University of Virginia (UVA).

The M.S. in Business Analytics is considered a non-residential program by U.S. government standards and therefore cannot provide F-1 visa sponsorship for international applicants who will require a student visa to enter or remain in the U.S.

If you are an international applicant who will not need a UVA-sponsored visa to study and work in the U.S. for the duration of the program, please be sure to indicate your current visa type on your application to confirm your eligibility. If you are not sure if you are allowed to concurrently study full-time and work full-time in your current visa status, please consult with your visa sponsor or your attorney before applying to our program to avoid any potential violations of your visa status.

Transcripts

A professional credential evaluation, with calculated GPA, for all transcripts/mark sheets from non-U.S. colleges and universities is required. Please have your official transcripts/mark sheets sent directly to a credential-evaluating service listed on www.naces.org for review. Photocopies and facsimiles of transcripts are not acceptable. A notarized copy of your transcripts does not serve as an official academic record.

An official copy of the evaluation report must be sent directly from the third-party service to the Office of Graduate Marketing & Admissions, McIntire School of Commerce, University of Virginia, P.O. Box 400173, Charlottesville, Virginia 22904-4173.

English Language Proficiency Requirements

Much of a student’s time in the program is spent collaborating, discussing, and presenting work orally as well as in writing. As a result, a high level of oral and written English communication skills is required of all students.

Language Proficiency Test Scores

International applicants are required to submit official scores from an English language test. We accept scores from either the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS).

To be competitive, your TOEFL score must be a minimum of 250 (online) or 100 (iBt), or a minimum overall band score of 7.5 for IELTS.

TOEFL scores must be submitted electronically to the University of Virginia code B626. In order to search for the code, use “Institution” and select “University of Virginia McIntire School of Commerce.” Paper-based TOEFL scores are not accepted.

Electronic IELTS scores must be submitted to our Electronic Download account directly by the IELTS test center. An institution code for IELTS is NOT required. Please provide the following information to the test center when requesting your scores:

E-download account name: University of Virginia McIntire School of Commerce

E-download account address: 125 Ruppel Dr., Charlottesville, Virginia 22903

Language Proficiency Test Waiver

International students whose primary language is not English and who have completed an undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited U.S. college or university that included a minimum of three years of residency in the United States are not required to provide a TOEFL or IELTS score. The admissions committee reserves the right to request additional verification of English language proficiency that could include specific coursework or TOEFL or IELTS testing.
