What is your motivation for pursuing an M.S. in Business Analytics?

I am pursuing the MSBA program to stay ahead in a world rapidly transformed by AI and data-driven decision-making. My career as a marketing leader has evolved alongside groundbreaking changes in analytics, from the pivot of my previous startup toward large language models (LLMs) to the integration of generative AI tools in content creation. The MSBA equips me with the technical frameworks needed to lead in this new era, ensuring I remain competitive and relevant in an industry that demands constant adaptation.

What led you to UVA’s MSBA Program?

As a Darden MBA this was the only school I considered. UVA’s MSBA program stood out for its exceptional balance of technical rigor and real-world application, a perfect complement to my previous experience at Darden. Having witnessed the transformative power of analytics in reshaping marketing strategies, I sought a program that could deepen my expertise in leveraging tools like AI to drive innovation. The collaborative cohort model and UVA’s reputation for excellence in analytics education made it the ideal choice to propel my career forward.

How has the MSBA program complemented your work experience?

The MSBA program has enhanced my ability to use data-driven insights to navigate the evolving challenges of modern marketing. For example, my work on marketing campaigns for IBM Federal now integrates advanced analytics learned through the program, allowing me to better understand customer behavior and optimize engagement strategies. The practical focus of the program ensures that every skill I acquire translates directly to measurable impact in my role.

What is the most practical concept and/or skill that you have learned so far?

The most practical skill has been harnessing AI-driven tools to analyze unstructured data, such as social media interactions and customer reviews. This skill enables me to design more effective and customer-centric marketing campaigns. It’s a vital capability that aligns seamlessly with my responsibility to lead innovation and deliver impactful results.

What is your favorite and/or the most valuable aspect(s) of the residences?

The residencies provide an immersive opportunity to connect with my peers and faculty while diving deep into analytics projects that mirror real-world business challenges. These intensive sessions foster collaboration, allowing me to expand my professional network while applying new knowledge in a hands-on, impactful way.

How have you been able to integrate the program into your professional responsibilities and personal commitments?

The program’s modular structure and focus on practical application have allowed me to seamlessly integrate new skills into my role at IBM. For instance, techniques learned in the MSBA have directly influenced my approach to AI-driven marketing campaigns. Strong time management and support from my network have been essential in maintaining this balance.

What are your interests and hobbies?

I am passionate about photography, drones, and video production, which allow me to combine technical precision with creative expression. I enjoy bench pressing while blasting Def Leppard and Guns N’ Roses, wine tasting in Charlottesville’s vibrant vineyards, watching action films, and driving fast—pursuits that keep me energized and engaged.

What is your best piece of advice for prospective students?

Enter the program with a curious and open mind, ready to embrace both the technical and strategic challenges of analytics. Leverage the wealth of knowledge within your cohort, and don’t hesitate to apply what you learn to your current role immediately—it’s the best way to maximize the program’s impact while keeping balance in your personal and professional life.
