I currently serve as a Senior Acquisition Program Manager and Subject Matter Expert for the Secretary of the Air Force. In this role, I’m responsible for overseeing large-scale acquisition programs, focusing on the delivery of advanced weapon systems to support our warfighters. My career, spanning over a decade, has been deeply rooted in the U.S. Air Force and the intelligence community. During this time, I’ve accumulated more than 10,000 hours of combat and training missions, which have been instrumental in shaping my expertise in strategic program management and operational intelligence.
I chose to pursue an MSBA to deepen my technical expertise in large-scale data analysis and to align my skills more closely with business analytics. My career has been marked by extensive experience with the military, and I recognized the need to expand my capabilities in handling larger datasets and integrating them more effectively into business decision-making. The MSBA Program presents an opportunity to refine my skills in predictive modeling and advanced analytics, and to strengthen my management and communication abilities.
The rigorous curriculum of UVA’s MSBA Program, combined with the Darden School of Business’ global reputation for academic excellence, sets it apart in the world of business education. The MSBA Program’s blend of technical skills and strategic insight, delivered by world-renowned faculty who emphasize experiential, case-based learning, prepares students to tackle real-world challenges with finesse. Additionally, the diverse student body offers an invaluable peer-to-peer learning experience, while the vast alumni network opens up unparalleled professional opportunities.
One of the most enriching aspects of the MSBA program so far has been the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse group of colleagues on various projects. Each team member brings unique backgrounds and expertise, contributing valuable skills and ideas that have been crucial to the success of our projects. Looking ahead, I’m excited about the upcoming modules and the chance to meet and work with more classmates throughout the next year. This interaction and networking are, for me, a vital part of the educational journey, providing opportunities for personal growth and professional development.
Music is a central part of my life; my wife and I love immersing ourselves in the energy of live concerts. I’m also a dedicated sports fan, enjoying the thrill of visiting different ballparks in the summer and the surrounding hockey arenas in the winter. To balance this excitement, we often retreat to the mountains with our dogs for camping and hiking, a perfect way to unwind and reconnect with nature, offering a peaceful contrast to the bustling National Capital Region.
My favorite travel destination is the Isle of Islay, situated on the western coast of Scotland. The island’s rugged natural beauty, combined with the incredible hospitality of its people, made our visit truly memorable. A standout aspect of the trip was touring the world-renowned scotch distilleries, each visit an immersive journey into the world of whiskey making. The combination of these experiences made my time on Islay truly unforgettable.
My most cherished memory in the MSBA Program so far is undoubtedly the first residency in Charlottesville. It was an experience filled with unforgettable moments. Staying at the beautiful Forum Hotel set the stage for a series of delightful events: from enjoying a dinner at the apple cidery to the excitement of a nail-biting UVA football game, and participating in an engaging scavenger hunt across UVA’s historic Lawn, donned in orange ponchos as we navigated the rain. Each of these activities added a unique and memorable layer to our residency.
The Rosslyn campus also holds a special significance in my MSBA experience. Its proximity to my home, just four metro stops away, offers incredible convenience. The campus itself, boasting incredible facilities and state-of-the-art classrooms, greatly enriches our learning. And the view from the 30th floor, overlooking Washington, DC, and Arlington, is simply breathtaking. Both the Charlottesville and Rosslyn residencies have been integral to my MSBA journey, making them exceptionally enjoyable and invaluable experiences.
My best piece of advice for prospective students is to believe in yourself. While feelings of imposter syndrome might emerge, it’s crucial to remember that you are capable and deserving of this opportunity. Embrace the journey and the challenges it brings, as it can be a transformative experience. It has already significantly changed my life for the better, and I firmly believe it can do the same for you. So, go into it with confidence and a willingness to grow—it’s an incredible journey that’s well worth it!
